If someone starts a new job, the employer should inform them of the basic details about their pay, how the money will be given to them, how frequently they should be paid and when it will happen.
It is covered by an award in Fair Work Act, 2009. The award sets out the minimum rate of pay for employees working in a specific job and classification. Additional, employees can get more wages than the amount set out in an award depending on what their employment contract says and also extra work such as overtime or for working at night, on weekends or public holidays.
On the other hand, employers must give a payslip that include the gross and net amount paid, the pay rate, superannuation and tax, the date of payment and others.
If employees think their pay is unfair or from an unreliable source, they can complain to the Fair Work Ombudsman.
